Title:   The ninth of Av in our days
Content:   Dear Peter,

Since the establishment of a state for the Jewish people under Jewish sovereignty, the ninth of Av should have become a holiday celebrated in the country as a day of joy and feasting representing our success, on our own, in bringing ourselves from darkness to light, from servants of G-d (religion) to the freedom of man. This day symbolizes as no other the transition from a "exile" nation, one which was a shame to the gentiles, to a nation which has a land like all other nations, from a nation which championed discrimination against gentiles and women to a nation which strives to be enlightened, liberal, and humane. And thus the "prophecy" of Zechariah (8:19) will be fulfilled: "Thus says the Lord of hosts…and the fast of the fifth [the ninth of Av]…shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace."

For more detail see the answer to The Ninth of Av should be a day of celebration and joy.

Sincerely,

Daat Emet
